Dear Mosler LINX User,
As the end of the century rapidly approaches, we have all focused our attention to the
potential problems that numerous software products are going to face in the Year 2000. You
should be happy to know that the LINX® Xtreme product will not
experience any problems associated with the Year 2000. In addition, the SCO UNIX Operating
System, Open Server 5.05, is currently not known to have any date and century related
problems.
UNIX time is stored as the number of seconds from January 1, 1970. The system uses the
UNIX time format for all of its time keeping requirements. What this means to the User is
that as long as the UNIX Operating System is Year 2000 compliant, the LINX Xtreme system
will be Year 2000 compliant. All LINX Xtreme systems are shipping with SCO UNIX version
5.05.
Certifying that a computer system will function correctly as the Year 2000 is entered
is a complex task. It requires a combination of application knowledge, testing skills and
significant management skills. There are multiple testing methods to ensure that a system
is Year 2000 ready. System testing, Integration testing and "Street" testing are
just a few. System test ensures that all modules concurrently work together, including the
hardware and firmware components. Integration testing ensures that interfaces function
properly. Street testing ensures that data exchanges such as to third party business
partners will continue to function properly.
The Mosler Engineering department developed a comprehensive testing procedure to
validate that the LINX Xtreme system is ready for the Year 2000. This test has been
conducted on the LINX Xtreme. |
